"15But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.17 So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind." Ephesians 4:15-17, NASB
It was just a week ago that I found myself standing on the school grounds on the island of Taiwan watching children play. Regardless of where I looked, these darling kids were interacting together with little adult interaction. No one needed to step in to break up a fight, no teacher screaming at misbehaving kids and seemingly everyone playing well together. I could not help but think the heat and humidity may have felt like Houston but it sure did not look like home!
Our friends who took us explained that the children in the yellow smocks were in kindergarten. These smocks tied in the back. From an early age, children are taught to tie each other's smocks and the need they have for each other, the need to work together. In American, we tie our own smocks and are proud of it. I could not help thinking where we would be if only we had learned to work together.
As a church, where would we be if we worked together? Lord, teach me through these children!
