Last week we looked at Moses' mother, Jochebed, and the courage she had (fueled by FAITH IN GOD) to put him in the basket in the Nile River and then how God blessed her in return by giving her the chance to be his nursemaid. (See Exodus 1 and 2). This opportunity gave Jochebed about two and a half years to teach Moses about God. She had about a thousand days with Moses, and she needed to be sure to make each one count.
God has given us as mothers the important role of teaching our children about Him. Deuteronomy 6:5-7 gives us two main guidelines for training up children:
1) Love God more than anyone or anything
2) Teach God's Word
What are a few suggestions of how can we do this?
* See motherhood as the greatest place of ministry, position or power that we could have.
* Live lives that reflect Christ (we cannot give what we do not have ourselves).
* Take advantage of the 'little moments' we have to teach "as we go".
* Partner with God. We are vessels with the God of the universe to help us mold our children's characters.
* Let our children join us in making our homes a light in our neighborhoods.
